Introduction
Get free help for any 1825, 100 level and 200 level Math class, (limited assistance available for 300 level classes).
Students in MTH 1825, or any 100 level or 200 level Math course can come to the Learning Center any of the hours listed. Please note that special courses such as MTH 112, MTH 201 and MTH 202 do not have tutors available during every hour that the MLC is open. Students in 300-level classes may be able to get help if experienced staff is available.
Ask questions in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere! In the Learning Center, by working with other students and experienced staff, you will come to better understand the concepts covered in your Mathematics class.
As an extra resource for our students, the Department of Mathematics offers a Math Learning Center. The goal of the Center is to provide a supportive atmosphere in which serious students can learn mathematics. We offer comprehensive service to students taking MTH 1825, all 100 level math courses, MTH 234 and MTH 235. Limited help is available for other 200 level and 300 level courses. The facility is staffed primarily by teaching assistants who are currently teaching the courses in which they are providing assistance. The high quality of this staff is verified by their ratings from student evaluations of the classes they teach. The average rating for overall performance of our tutors is 3.1 out of 4.0.
The Center is located on the first floor of the A-Wing of Wells Hall. Students can find out the appropriate room for their particular class by going to the information booth in the lobby. We are open approximately 40 hours per week. We recorded about 13,000 visits by students for the Fall 2004 semester. Our surveys of those who use the center show that they rate our staff to be very friendly and very knowledgeable. Almost all students indicate that the Center has helped increase their math grades by anywhere from .5 to 1.0 on the standard 4.0 scale.
In addition to tutoring service, the mlc also sponsors review sessions before each exam in many large uniform cources. Please, see the Exam Review Sessions section for more details.
The Department of Mathematics wants to see students succeed in their classes. The Math Learning Center is one of the services we offer to help students accomplish this. Our surveys show that students who fail the introductory courses are almost certain to have failed the first test. So it is very important to seek help early. We do not do homework for students, but we can help them understand the concepts and put them on the right track quickly.
The faculty supervisor of the Center is the Associate Chair, Prof. Milan Miklavcic (milan@math.msu.edu). Candy Giovanni (giovanni@math.msu.edu) is responsible for the coordination of the Center. If you have any quesions about the mlc, please email mlc@math.msu.edu. Comments regarding the Math Learning Center are welcomed and may be sent to Prof. Miklavcic or Candy Giovanni.

MLC Surveys and Results
We would greatly appreciate it is you would take a few minutes to fill out a brief survey about the MLC and the MLC sponcored review sessions. It should take only a few moments to fill out. There are two different surveys. The first evaluates the MLC Tutoring Service located in A-Wing Wells Hall. The second evaluates the review sessions sponsored by the MLC before exams in many large uniform courses. If you have attended an MLC sponsored review session, we would appreciate you fill out both surveys.Your answers to our survey will help us to improve the services of the Mathematics Learning Center for you and future students of your class. All of your answers will be read and considered very carefully. The MLC would appreciate your feedback after each review session on the review session survey. The MLC tutor survey only needs to be filled out once each semester.
Thank you for your feedback!
